Advantages of Using FRP for Utility Projects

Design & Manufacturing of Utility Infrastructure Products

At Creative, we design and manufacture composite structures for various utility infrastructure applications, such as utility poles, light poles and crossarms. Compared to those made from traditional materials (e.g. wood, steel, concrete), they offer better resiliency and easier maintenance, both of which make for a superior long-term investment.

Advantages of Using Composites for Utility Projects

There are many reasons why you should choose composites as a building material for utility projects. For example:

  • It is safe - Our FRP composites exhibit high dielectric strength, which improves worker safety while enhancing protections again short-circuiting. Additionally, it is chemical-free and fire retardant.
  • It is lightweight - The material’s lighter weight compared to traditional building materials makes it cheaper to transport and easier and safer to handle. Additionally, it helps reduce the amount of wear experienced by the finished structure over time.
  • It is available in many designs -  The material comes in numerous shapes, sizes and colors, so project managers can tailor their material orders to the unique specifications of the project.
  • It is pre-engineered to industry standards - We manufacture our composite products to high-quality standards to assure our users of its performance in their applications.
  • It is easy to maintain - Our FRP composites resist rotting and damage from termites, woodpeckers and vermin, making it easy to maintain over time.
  • It is fast to produce and install - The material can be produced up to 15 days faster and installed up to 5 days sooner than precast concrete.
  • It is cost-effective - The material’s shorter production time, installation time, low maintenance and long service life make it a cost-effective option for utility projects.

Our Composite Utility Infrastructure Products

Due to its many advantages, composites find use as a building material in many structural applications. At Creative Composites Group, we provide the following composite utility product solutions:

Utility Product Lines:

FireStrong Utility Poles

FireStrong utility poles maintain their structural integrity after a fire, so they can be kept in service. In addition, the integration of an irreversible temperature monitoring system helps utility workers determine whether pole strength retention was successful.

Light Poles

Light Poles

We manufacture direct burial light poles for National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) standard electrical boxes. The poles are manufactured from a toughened polyester resin reinforced with high-strength electrical-grade fiberglass. They can be backfilled with concrete, pole set foam, or gravel. Surface-mounted National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) approved break away and standard bases are available for customers who need surface-mounted poles.
