Project: Cheney Rails-to-Trails Pedestrian Bridge

Product: Pedestrian Bridge Decking

Overview: The Cheney Rail Trail follows part of the corridor of the South Manchester Railroad. The new FRP bridge deck serves as a key connection for pedestrians and bicyclists that want to travel along the renovated rail-trail. The project called for a walkway installation on an existing steel truss bridge.

Three FRP panels 23 ft. long by 9.5 ft. wide were used. The total deck length was 69 ft. A crown for water drainage and curbs for guiding bicycles were included in the prefabricated deck, which made installation quick. It was also given a non-slip, pedestrian-grade Matacryl surface.

FRP reduced installation time and costs as well as minimized the need for maintenance.
