Project: Mock-Up Near Field Scanner; SPY1A Array Near Field Scanner

Product: Shapes

Overview: The Naval Surface Warfare Center, Port Hueneme Division would be installing a near field scanner on a ship; however, before installing the actual equipment, which is delicate and expensive, they wanted to test the installation process. Specifically, there were concerns that the crane rigging could interfere with installation and landing points, potentially damaging the equipment. Pultex FRP structurals were used to build a mock-up scanner for a test-run of the installation process. The material is rigid, easy to fabricate into a modular design, lightweight for shipping, and inexpensive when compared to standard materials.  The mock-up worked well to help the Division identify potential installation problems.
