Kenway Corporation Selected to Work on USN DDG 1000 Destroyer

Posted by Composite Advantage on Feb 11, 2021

Bath Iron Works has selected Kenway Corporation to perform work on the United States Navy’s most advanced destroyer ever built. The state-of-the-art ship’s superstructure is made of FRP and consequently requires a highly specialized set of skills to perform any work or make modifications. Kenway was awarded this work due to its extensive background in composites and advanced vacuum-infusion knowledge.

Kenway has been awarded 29 contracts to date covering a wide variety of work ranging from simple hand lamination to in-place vacuum infusion. Through Maritime Applied Physics Corporation of Baltimore, Maryland, and Topsham, Maine, Kenway supplied grab bars that are mounted on personnel safety barriers on the DDG 1000’s flight deck. Kenway was also one of three fabricators who submitted a proposal for a Composite Twisted Rudder for the DDG 1000.
